Blast From The Past Spiltmilk Blast From The Past is the much anticipated new performance work from Spiltmilk Dance – who have been touring with their seminal show Spiltmilk Say Dance for the last 12 months. The show invites audiences to join the company in a glitzy quiz night full of familiar rounds, brain teasers and challenges from iconic British gameshows. This gives audiences the opportunity to be immersed in a social event whilst also experiencing a performance. All the family can team up, get stuck in and have fun with the charming hosts. Throughout the evening of quizzing, Blast From The Past takes audiences on a journey through the popular music, fads and fashions that have shaped British popular culture over the last 60+ years. The work takes the form of a short dance or ‘episode’ for each year since the recorded music charts began in 1952. Each episode is inspired by a key event or trend that impacted life in British living rooms that year and will be accompanied by the top selling song from the year. As research for the work, the company have led community consultations across the country alongside their national tour of Spiltmilk Say Dance. Stories and memories of the most pertinent national and local events and trends have been collected, and contributors have ranged from 8 – 98 years old. The dances are set to be fun, accessible and a little bit silly – speaking to audiences not usually familiar with contemporary dance. The company’s performers will bring the same charm, wit and intelligence as seen in Spiltmilk Say Dance. But this time, instead of disco dancing to Sinatra, think Tea dancing with tea cups, Tupperware parties to Elvis and a choreographic love letter to Woolworths pick and mix sweets.
