Branwen Michael Harvey Branwen: through Story and Song With Michael Harvey and Pauline Down A long time ago, Aberffraw was the setting for a plan to unite Ireland and Britain. Branwen, one of the three foremost women of these islands, was married to Matholoch, the King of Ireland. "Branwen: Through Story and Song," tells the tale of this uneasy match across borders. One of the greatest myths of Celtic mythology, this ancient Welsh story has an intimate relationship with the landscape where it is set as well as the landscape of the human soul. It is a story of magical transformation, extreme characters, wildness, fury and longing. The story has a different shape to it than many other stories and is rooted in a deep dream logic that still talks to us directly many centuries after its composition. Michael and Pauline will also tell the tale of Taliesin. This explores the spirit of creativity and poetic inspiration and will be brought to life with words, music, rhythm and a loop pedal. These bilingual performances are suitable for adults and children over 10. “Branwen entrances from the first word until the final spell is cast. In one hour a whole world of marvel, mystery and humour is evoked through story and song. Michael Harvey and Pauline Down are masters of their art, and are wonderful ambassadors for Welsh culture and tradition. This is storytelling at its very best.” — Donald Smith, Director Scottish International Storytelling Festival PERFORMERS Michael Harvey has worked all over the world telling traditional stories and leading workshops.
