WE ARE FAMILY An empowering one-person performance poetry show all about family! For children (aged 5+) and their grown ups Written and performed by award-winning children’s author, Oliver Sykes Meet six kids and their amazing Super-Dad! There’s Dad’s disgusting nettle soup and peculiar pancakes, horrible home haircuts, punishing press-ups and scum in the bathtub. BUT then there’s the joy of boxing lessons with Dad, fun family outings, jokes and pranks – and storytelling round the fire. Not to mention a homemade birthday cake like no other! Oliver’s real-life childhood – rough, tough but happy – is vividly depicted in this groundbreaking debut story told in poems. … "Joyful and soulful – from a necessary new voice!" DOM CONLAN, Double Carnegie-award-nominated author of the Wild Wanderer series. 'The wonderfully talented Oliver Sykes invites us on a journey into the intricacies of his family upbringing in this collection of powerful poems." BOOKTRUST "A writer of immense heart and talent." PHIL EARLE "Beautiful, honest and bursting with heart." RASHMI SIRDESHPANDE

Oliver Sykes is an award-winning Children’s Author, Performer, Poet and Producer. He is also one of six kids, and was brought up on a council estate in rural Derbyshire, by his single-parent dad. Oliver has had a whirlwind 18-months, which include the release of his critically acclaimed debut children's book, Alfie's First Fight, as well as touring his one-man stage adaptation of the story regionally to libraries, boxing clubs and theatres, with a national tour to follow in Spring 2023. His second book, Fishing For Rainbows, is coming soon. He is also Lead Artist & Producer for Stories of Care, supporting young writers from low-income, single parent and care-experienced backgrounds. His work is funny, fast-paced and heartfelt, and acknowledges the real struggle of working-class families, of single parents, and the special love and bond, which comes from those experiences
