Show Name: Matthew Frederick

Join Climbing Trees and Hazel & Grey frontman Matthew Frederick for an intimate solo performance of songs from his career so far. With a mixture of Misery Folk and Cymrucana, dashes of ballads and blues, plus a touch of contemporary classical thrown in for good measure, the Rhondda Valley musician delicately balances humour, heartbreak and everything in between, hopping between the piano and guitar with a handful of stories along the way. “So good… So beautiful… So pretty” Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1 “Matthew Frederick should now be recognised as one of Wales’ finest songwriters and performers” New Sound Wales “A cross between Bob Dylan’s 1960’s storytelling and Bruce Springsteen’s 1970’s rabble rousers" Buzz Magazine “Little slices of perfect pop (albeit tinged with a folk and country flavour), chock-full of hooks and melodies destined to take up residence in the subconscious … a hugely enjoyable collection of beautiful songs” RnR Magazine "As I sit back, I am transported to another world ... this is a real guitar-playing showcase" Fresh On The Net "It’s like the first rays of spring sunshine that’s endured a lot over the winter months" Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales “Some incredible material in his armoury at the moment" Charlie Ashcroft, Amazing Radio “A sheer delight ... if music pushes buttons, then this certainly pushes mine. Quite superb!" FATEA Magazine

With numerous television, radio and festival appearances under his belt, alongside live shows in the UK, Europe and USA, Rhondda's own Matthew Frederick has racked up six albums, two EPs and eighteen singles to date as a solo musician, frontman of Cymrucana pioneers Climbing Trees and one half of indie-folk duo Hazel & Grey. An eventful last decade or so has seen Frederick perform with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, record at London’s legendary Maida Vale Studios, receive BBC Introducing, Radio 1 and 6 Music airplay and a Welsh Music Prize nomination, as well as the release of his critically-acclaimed debut solo studio album ‘Fragments’ via Staylittle Music. Following a fourteen-date tour in support of latest single and long-time live favourite 'Obsolete,' which earned a spot on the BBC Radio Wales Welsh A List, Frederick returns with another run of solo shows across Wales this Autumn. “So good… So beautiful… So pretty” Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1 “Matthew Frederick should now be recognised as one of Wales’ finest songwriters and performers” New Sound Wales
