Performer Name: Lighthouse Theatre Ltd

Show Name: Reminiscences of Childhood

Show Description

Drawing on Adrian’s own childhood in Swansea, his interpretation of Thomas’ poetry and prose has won international recognition and awards and has played to great acclaim in America. In this hour-long, solo performance, Metcalfe uses a wide range of works by the author including The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog, Quite Early One Morning, The Collected Poems and Return Journey, seamlessly entwined with Metcalfe’s own prose, and succeeds in creating a delightful, haunting exploration of the work of the great Dylan Thomas – at once touching and comical. With music by George Martin and Elton John… ‘This show is a gem’, The Stage ‘I defy anyone to watch this without a lump coming to their throat’, South Wales Evening Post ‘The highlight of the festival’, The Morganstown Festival ‘Anyone who didn’t come tonight has missed out’, Maesteg Town Hall

Lighthouse creates ambitious, quirky and inventive performances with community at its heart. We tour high quality, entertaining and accessible work throughout Wales, often with a local theme. As well as performing in traditional theatre settings, we are excited by performing in pubs, parlours, the open-air and immersive spaces. In 2011, we performed our first show – a three-person adaptation of Noel Coward's Still Life. In 2024, we were awarded the Arts and Business Cymru, Arts in the Community Award for our work with Cardiff Harbour Authority on The Tides Are A-Changing. This production will help us grow in a number of ways - we are returning to a format that our audiences really appreciate but with a title that atrracts its own considerable support base - it will be a huge challeneg for us but one that we anticipate with relish. We continue to attract an audience with a wide age range nationally but remain firmly rooted in our home base, offering theatre in conventional spaces as well as poetry, plays and fund-raisers in local pubs and community centres and this work continues alongside our raised profile.
