Performer Name: Sarah Rundle
Show Name: Gawain and The Green Knight
Show Description
Gawain, nephew to King Arthur, rides out in golden armour on his white horse. His mission is suicidal: to seek beheading by the axe of a murderous giant. His journey is long and cold; he is constantly ambushed … but the greatest danger comes from his own heart. Gawain is a C14th alliterative poem, itself based on an ancient Celtic story. It has themes of magic, honour, heroism tinged with absurdity, and has at its heart a dysfunctional family, where a wrong done in one generation festers into revenge upon the next. My prose re-telling of this wonderful epic includes humour, songs, and contemporary references: the etiquette of Christmas presents, Yodel delivery drivers, Downton Abbey, Powerpoint, and gossip mags.
If a venue can provide a BSL interpreter, then the show will be accessible for D/deaf people. If there is no BSL interpreter, and I am aware that D/deaf people are in the audience, I will try to ensure that they have seats where they have a good view of my face for lip-reading.
Since storytelling is word-based rather than image-based, the show is accessible for people with vision impairment.
As long as a venue is wheelchair accessible, then the show is accessible for wheelchair users.
I do not bring my own lighting. A general wash will be ideal.
