Presented by Crooked Timber Theatre Created by Gemma Khawaja Experience a day at the seaside with this charming puppet story in miniature showing a day at sea with the real Cromer crab fishermen of North Norfolk. Set to the foot-tapping folk music of East Anglian musicians; Bob Roberts, Tony Hall and Percy Brown, this wordless piece is a wonderful introduction to the joyful magic of puppet theatre with sing-along opportunities for all!



The show uses very minimal dialogue and story is conveyed purely through movement. There is a continuous soundtrack of maritime folk music and seaside soundscapes. By prior arrangement, visually impaired audience members are welcome to talk to the performer between shows to have a touch tour of the puppets and scenery and to hear about the story.
No black out needed. 1 x mains plug socket needed
Indoor Requirements -3m x 3m playing area plus space for audience - Flat, level floor (no staging required) -Ideally the audience will be seated as close to the show as possible. The company provides rugs for children to sit on the floor right next to the action -1.5 hours unloading & set up time required -1 hour pack up required -1 x mains power plug socket The show can be performed indoors in a variety of intimate spaces, no blackout is required. For indoor non theatre settings the show will tour with own lighting & will need 1 x mains power socket. For theatre, blacked out spaces a basic warm daylight lighting state will be required and theatre PA may be used.
An online marketing pack is provided including copy, draft press release, social media post info etc and images. A4 posters (single sided) 10 per venue and A5 flyers (double sided) 200 per venue are available by prior arrangements. Venues will be responsible for their own overprinting/stickering of details (space is included on print materials for this).
Crooked Timber Theatre was set up by Gemma Khawaja to create and tour innovative children’s puppet theatre drawing on traditional stories and local heritage. Gemma is an accomplished performer and workshop leader specialising in children’s theatre and puppetry. Upon completing an Honours degree in Drama 2001, Gemma furthered her skills and training in puppetry by learning traditional puppet making and performance techniques at Norwich Puppet Theatre from 2001-2004. Gemma has over 20 years of professional experience touring to venues, festivals, rural settings and schools nationally performing in puppet shows produced by leading companies such as Norwich Puppet Theatre, Horse & Bamboo Theatre, Little Angel Theatre.
