Performer Name: Finding The Will

Show Name: Naming The View

Show Description

Kate and Horton knew each other 30 years ago. They meet by chance on top of Cleeve Hill, Gloucestershire and begin an awkward conversation. Slowly the challenges they've both faced in the intervening years begin to tumble out. Together they discover that it’s never too late to explore new horizons. First performed in 2018, NAMING THE VIEW now has even more relevance following the pandemic. Isolation, economic abuse and the insidious nature of coercive control are explored in this sensitive, powerful and ultimately uplifting play. You will laugh as well as cry, so make sure the tissues are close at hand! "A story of rekindled friendship and healing. Touching and funny, riven with humour and hope" **** Stage Talk Magazine
"Entertaining, compelling, brave. Powerful, heartfelt. Thought-provoking, witty, poignant, inspiring. Keep going - the UK needs this!" Thimblemill Library Audience, Smethwick

The play is set out of doors and so we are happy to use whatever lighting is available, even if it's just strip lights in the hall! We travel in a Citroen C3, so don't have room to tour lights, but if a venue really wants them, we will do our best to source and provide.
The set consists of a bench and a piece of grass, so it is minimal and can fit into any size of venue. 5M x 5M minimum (Height not an issue).
We can perform on a raised stage or on the floor. We will adjust the blocking accordingly. Black out, not essential. Cabaret style seating or conventional rows, at the venue's discretion.

NAMING THE VIEW - a contemporary play reimagining Shakespeare's The Taming Of The Shrew thirty years after Kate and Pete's unconventional wedding. It explores the damaging effects of abusive relationships and how, with support, it is possible to break the shackles of coercive control and look forward to new horizons.
As well as writing and performing its own work FINDING THE WILL also works in primary and special schools across England and Wales, delivering workshops and Project Weeks on six of Shakespeare's best loved plays. The Project Weeks culminate in a performance of the chosen play by the children themselves.
