Show Description

Ar Geinioga' by Manon Wyn Williams. 1884. Owain Glyndŵr's wish five hundred years earlier to establish two Universities in Wales - one in the south and the other in the north - was realised and the doors of North Wales University College were opened for the first time in the old Penrhyn Arms hotel in Bangor. At the helm was a young twenty seven year old Irishman. He devoted his life to the work of the university for over forty years, embracing the Welsh life and culture around him. He, more than any other man, was responsible for the growth and development of the organization as well as leading it through many storms. Harry Reichel, the first Headmaster of Coleg y Gogledd, tells the story of the establishment of the university on the meager pennies of the area's quarries and farmers. Actor - Llion Williams Director - Betsan Llwyd This is a Welsh language production, English precis will be available.

Theatr Bara Caws is a Professional Welsh Language Theatr Company. From their home in Caernarfon Bara Caws have been taking productions designed and performed especially for Welsh audiences, to their communities, for over 45 years. Theatr Bara Caws is a co-operative company, with a core of 5 full-time members. They receive financial support from ACW, Gwynedd Council, Anglesey Council, as well as a number of Community Councils. It has been a registered charity since 1977. Though based in Gwynedd the company tours nationally, whenever possible, playing in village halls, community centres, theatres, schools and clubs, taking their productions to areas often deprived of live professional theatre. For a reasonable fee, we offer performances to all societies who wish to invite Bara Caws to their community. The societies are then expected to play their part by selling tickets and promoting the production locally. All profit made during these productions then go towards local good causes. Over the years Bara Caws has nurtured a strong network of organizers throughout Wales, and we welcome all enquiries by any individual who wishes to join this successful system. Bara Caws present at least three productions a year, ranging from comedies and plays suitable for the entire family, to new and challenging work, and of course our infamous ‘club shows’. We aim to present original and relevant work to the largest cross-section of society possible, and believe that we offer the very best in theatre, offering excitement, entertainment, ingenuity and relevance to the heart of all communities throughout Wales.
