Performer Name: Swallow's Wings Puppetry

Show Name: Anansi & the Lost Sun

Show Description

Anansi & the Lost Sun is a 50-minute puppet show that celebrates African and Caribbean culture, designed for children aged 4 and older, along with their families. Our beautiful puppets, for which we were nominated for an OFFIE in 2023, tell the story of the legendary trickster Anansi the Spider, accompanied by stunning traditional West African music. The Anansi stories are humorous, lively, empowering, and community-led narratives and an important part of our multicultural heritage. Originating from African traditions, they possess a universal appeal for people in modern Britain. Additionally, we offer workshops in puppet-making and shadow puppetry, utilising everyday materials or waste to create all our puppets. A google review says: “Highly recommend. This experience was incredible and showcased many different styles of puppetry proving that anything can be of use if you’re creative enough. The storyteller was engaging and imaginative. Passion for the craft shines through. The story encouraged participation and the kids seemed to really enjoy being brought into the tale. Even though we didn’t have any children to bring we had a wonderful time. Definitely a must see for families but without children it’s worth while too, particularly if you are interested in the art form.”
