Show Description

"I’m a great believer in untold stories and I'm a great believer in stories that make a difference." Brian Lavery on GRIMM 2023 1961, Landing Day. The end of the first Cod War. With the threat of war looming over them, a fat wage packet and only three days to spend it, the fishermen return to The Ship Disco, where life on the home front awaits them. It will be 7 years between the triple trawler tragedy, 11 years before the second Cod War and 15 years before the fishing industry collapses in on itself all together. But tonight, we head down to the ship disco where there’s a pint with your name on it.

Grimm is a site sensitive & softly immersive experience seeking to resurrect the heyday of the 1960's Grimsby Fishing Industry. To this day, you are still 115 times more likely to suffer injury at sea than any other profession. We wanted to create a show that seeks to voice the forgotten fishing community; The men that risked their lives and most importantly the women they left behind. The women that became both 'mother and father' to the children. The women that worked, paid the bills and ran the house not knowing if their husband was alive or dead. It is through their eyes that we tell our story. This community deserves to be heard.
