Performer Name: Weird Folk

Show Name: Robert Johnson & The Devil

Show Description

Somewhere in Mississippi, 1938. A lost man stands at a fork in the road, with a guitar in his hand. The road he’s on leads back to a life that’s fallen apart. The other leads to glory. This is the story of an all-consuming dream, the cost of a human soul, and a deal with the Devil. Featuring storytelling, live delta blues and spirituals, Robert Johnson & The Devil is a myth inspired by the original bluesman. An icon for Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin, and the first member of the infamous ‘27 club’, Robert Johnson’s disappearance remains shrouded in mystery to this day. We can add an interval into the show, provide a short set of relevant music before or after to make an interval, or work with local support acts. A show by Weird Folk Storyteller: Amari Harris Live Music: Andy McKeane About the Show Robert Johnson & The Devil is a 1-hr storytelling & music show. Told in an informal style, it's a communal experience in the best fireside storytelling tradition, where the audience dance, sing and stamp their feet. The music is guitar-based, featuring the work of Robert Johnson, Fats waller, and Trad songs, with a stomp box and additional choral vocals on a loop pedal. About the Company Andy McKeane and Amari Harris are Weird Folk. We’ve taken our Marvellous Myth Hunter family shows to South Bank Centre, Lyric Hammersmith, Camp Bestival, Cheltenham Literary Festival, Bath Children’s Literature Festival and Wimbledon Bookfest, following our first show together, a one-man Xmas Carol in 2019. Amari Harris and Andy McKeane are Weird Folk. We make stories for adults and family audiences, and since 2023 have played at South Bank Centre, Camp Bestival and Mumbai International Literature festival. Amari Harris is a storyteller and drama practitioner, and has worked with Punchdrunk, the Old Vic, The Young Vic and the Donmar Warehouse. Andy is a theatremaker and musician, and has played at Latitude Festival, in a 4000 year-old egyptian temple and is, weirdly, a professional whistler, as well as producing for Night Out Wales faves Wright&Grainger. We both learnt our trade in local halls and arts centres, and love that feeling when a neighbourhood comes together.
