Performer Name: Claire Mace
Show Name: Of Swine and Swineherds / Am Foch ac am Feichiaid
Show Description
There are many porcine myths and legends, like that of the monstrous boar Twrch Trwyth, who the young warrior Culhwch pursued in order to seize the comb, razor and scissors that sat between his bristly ears. Or the Pig Husband, a man by night and swine-shaped by day. Or the Three Powerful Swineherds of the Island of Britain: Pryderi, Trystan and Coll. These tales touch on themes that are alive and grunting in our world today: how we use and abuse nature's resources; how we balance production and consumption; how so few people now experience the joy of keeping a pig in their back garden. Singer, storyteller, yoga teacher and Welsh language learner Claire Mace was born near Aberdeen and is now based in Bethesda. She's fascinated by old songs and stories and their power to help us find our way in the present time. This 45-90 minute show in English with some Welsh interweaves stories and songs of pigs and their keepers, smelling of magic and the worlds beyond our world.
