Show Description

Meet Fred, the two-foot-tall cloth puppet that fights prejudice every day. He just wants to be a regular guy, part of the real world, to get a job and meet a girl, but when threatened with losing his PLA (Puppetry Living Allowance), Fred’s life begins to spiral out of his control. Contains strong language and puppet nudity.

We can provide captions in English or Welsh, free of charge. We also work closely with experienced Audio Describers and BSL Interpreters who are familiar with the show, and—subject to their availability—they can be engaged directly by the venue. While we don’t offer formally designated 'relaxed performances' (with adjusted lighting or sound levels), our approach is always inclusive. Audiences are welcome to enjoy the production in whatever way they need to—this includes making involuntary noise, moving around, or entering and exiting the space as required. We like venues to signpost a 'chill out' space for this reason. If an audience member has an access rider, we’re very happy to work with the venue to explore and support any reasonable adjustments.
We will bring our own LX desk and all fixtures on the floor/booms. Where possible, we prefer the venue to pre-rig the FOH and side bars. LX plan will be supplied.
A smoke machine (that we provide) will be used twice during the performance. There is no strobe lighting. All sound playback is cued from a laptop /iPad at the lighting op position. There is no live sound in the production and no fallback is required on stage. Most suited to studio spaces, with tiered seating, of capacity 80-200. Minimum playing space: 6m wide / 4.5m deep / 3m high. A "Black Box" style space is ideal, with a black stage surface preferred. The stage should be surrounded by black or similarly dark-coloured walls or drapes, and there should be at least one entrance/exit to the backstage area. We need x1 seat reserved in the auditorium for ‘The Director’ character to be positioned pre-show. Get In: 3 hours Get Out: 1 hour Meet Fred travels with 7 performers, 1 technician and 1 creative enabler. Sometimes we need to bring 2 creative enablers, if members of the cast require extra support.
We’ll be supplying a full marketing pack to support your activity, which will include links to production photos and videos, a full cast list with bios, background information about the show, and a selection of reviews and quotes. We’re happy to support wherever we can, and can also provide printed posters and leaflets, as well as a range of digital assets.
Hijinx’s work is bold, vibrant, anarchic and honest because our artists are bold, vibrant, anarchic and honest. As artists together, both neurodivergent and neurotypical, we present a world that champions inclusion and challenges perceptions. Hijinx creates exhilarating, subversive theatre from large to small scale for both indoor and outdoor performance. Artists with learning disabilities and/or autism are involved every step of the way in the making and performing of their stories.
