Show Name: Yoko Pwno & Lo-fi Jones

Liam Rickard (a.k.a Worldwide Welshman) is looking forward very much to welcoming his friends Yoko Pwno to midwales this February. Yoko Pwno are an Edinburgh/Dunbar based Scottish Folktronica band, popular in festivals across Scotland, England and Wales. There'll be a support slot from Machynlleth's very own indie-folk-pop group, Lo-fi Jones! I'll let Yoko Pwno introduce themselves: "First things first – Yoko Pwno is pronounced yoe – koe – poe – noe. It rhymes with Yoko Ono, or Loco Bono, if you prefer. Not everyone calls us that though. The BBC called us ‘one of Scotland’s most loved live acts’. Spiral Earth called us ‘trippy and pleasingly eclectic’. The National even said that we gave traditional music ‘a new and infectious energy’. To our friends and family, we are called Helen, Lewis, Lissa, Calum, Dan, Gary and Sam – seven friends on a mission to blow you away with a fusion of self penned folk tunes, songs, and the kind of banging, wonky dance beats that soundtrack Edinburgh’s underground club scene. Since 2019 we’ve released two albums, toured all over the UK, and started making forays into Europe. Recent highlights include massive events like the 2024 edition of Boomtown Fair, a trip to Austria’s Wackelstein Festival, and more happy, dancing festival crowds than we care to remember. We even got to open up for Hot Chip at a massive outdoor gig at Glasgow’s Junction 1 in 2023. Not many traditional musicians can say they’ve done that!"
