Show Name: A Carnival of Carols

The Carnival Band are one of the best-loved early music/folk crossover bands in the UK, famed for their collaboration with Maddy Prior on A Tapestry of Carols and Carols and Capers.  Their range is breathtaking  - medieval lyrics, English and European folk carols, contemporary comedy and reflections on the season of goodwill are delivered in rich vocal harmony to the accompaniment of ancient and modern sounds. Giles Lewin (Bellowhead, Dufay Collective) on fiddle, bagpipes and recorder is joined by Andy Watts (Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Instruments of Time and Truth) shawm, curtal and clarinet, Jub Davis (Adderbury Ensemble, Bristol Ensemble) double bass, and Steno Vitale  (Chanter) cittern and guitar.  Their Yuletide cocktail is guaranteed to be an evening of consummate musicianship laced with good humour and their rapport with the audience will charm even the most Scrooge-like heart. Andy Watts: flemish bagpipes, shawm, recorders, clarinet, curtal, melodica, vocals Giles Lewin: fiddle, shawm, medieval bagpipes, recorders, vocals
Jub Davis: double bass, vocals
Steno Vitale: cittern, acoustic and electric guitar, vocals

Performer Name: The Carnival Band

The Carnival Band has been mixing and matching early music, folk and world music (in fact any music that has the spirit of Carnival) for 40 years. Growing out of the touring theatre company The Medieval Players, they have extended their range to cover music from the four corners of the globe and from the twelfth century to the twenty-first. They have toured from Tokyo to Torquay, and a lot of places in between, and their long association with folk-rock heroine Maddy Prior is the stuff of legend. They have an amazing range of instruments and they sing in glorious harmony. All delivered with a sense of fun and brilliant musicianship.
