The Billy Thompson Trio is largely a cut down version of the full band (Billy Thompson Gypsy Style). This line-up is best suited for smaller venues where a relaxed atmosphere is required. That said, as seen on the linked video, a few fast tunes might pop up. With the trio, more of the classic jazz repertoire is performed. The Trio has performed at many different venues from the Llangollen International Eisteddfod outdoor stages, to Birmingham Jazz Festival (as shown in the video) to more intermate settings such as church vestries.

Gypsy Jazz band performing a mixture of gypsy jazz classics and fiery Hungarian tunes. Billy Thompson Gypsy Style is a remarkable band, based in the North of Wales. This band is violinist Billy Thompson‘s venture into his version of the ‘Gypsy Jazz’ or ‘Hot Club’ style of music created by Django Reinhardt and Stêphane Grappelli. The band regularly features multi-instrumentalists Eryl Jones (guitar/mandolin), Andy Mackenzie (guitar) and Greg Robley (bass). Billy uses a radio mic in all of his performances and on more than one occasion has literally been a Fiddler on the Roof.
