Show Name: Tales from Wales...and Other Places
Variety of tales, short and longer, on mythical themes, Welsh life, some comedy tales, occasional performance poem, other types of story.
Performer Name: Mellt the Storyteller
Mellt, a native of North Wales, has been Telling her Tales to groups and organisations for several years as well as performing at smaller festivals, often stretching the boundaries of storytelling to include song, dance, music, drumming, and physical theatre, in collaboration with other performers. In 2017, inspired by her beloved Four Branches of the Mabinogi, she wrote, directed and performed in Wondrous! The Legendary Women of Welsh Myth, at Theatr Clwyd, alongside thirty friends who brought their various talents to the show, which sold out both nights. (Her profile photograph shows her as Branwen from The Second Branch.) Mellt is a passionate exponent of the power of story, the lessons to be learned from myth and fairytale, and the need for us to begin creating our own tales and mythology for this and future generations. Her stories are told in English. They are not aimed at the under-16s. Her recent Tales for Midwinter and the Festive Season at Gladstone's Library sold out within a fortnight and was a great success for an audience enjoying relief from Storm Darragh outside! She has recently performed for Cilcain WI in the Clwydian Range and has more bookings lined up for the coming months. She is now working on new material for 2025. She has appeared regularly as a Little Night Out performer and is a keen advocate for the scheme, for herself and other performers.
